Community 2010

"Communion with God; Community with Others"

That is the theme for the young adult community at Clairmont Presbyterian Church in 2010, as we believe many in our culture often live with a sense of isolation and spiritual dryness. Many hunger for something more - something richer and deeper in life.  Ultimately, we believe that hunger is a hunger for meaningful community, both with God and others. In light of that, we have developed our theme for this year.

We believe that theme can be captured helpfully by a couple parts of the Last Call worship gathering: candles and coffee.

Perhaps the first thing one notices at Last Call are many candles at the front of the sanctuary. Certainly the light and the scents create an inviting atmosphere. But the candles also remind us that we are entering into a sacred, contemplative space where we worship God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - and rekindle our communion with Him. Our hope is that through the music, sermons, prayers, and weekly communion at Last Call you will find a deeper connection with God  in the coming year.

The other feature one observes fairly quickly at Last Call is the coffee at the back of the sanctuary. It is typically a place where young adults gather beforehand and afterwards to meet, catch up, and generally enjoy conversation with one another. In many ways, that gathering symbolizes our other hope for Last Call in 2010. We hope that you can find meaningful community with others during the coming year. We believe that God made us to be in community with one another – invested meaningfully in each other’s lives. Weekly worship, regular social events around town, small groups, and service opportunities are all ways we will focus on being community with and for one another.
