Dance

Dance Class are held in the Family Life Center.
No previous dance training is required.

Tuesdays
taught by Hope Harrell

    * 6th - 8th Grade Jazz from 5:15-6:15pm
    * High School Jazz from 6:15-7:15pm

 Thursdays
taught by Millie Rhodes 

    * 1st-2nd grade Modern 3:30-4:30pm
    * 3rd-5th grade Modern 4:30-5:30pm

Performance Opportunities

Every year Center of Motion has two performances; the first is a holiday performance in December and the second is an end of the year performance in May. All information regarding the recital is distributed to the students closer to the performance date.

FEES:
Clairmont Presbyterian Church members: $360/class
Payment #1: $180 due NO LATER than 9/04/09

Non-Church Members: $440/class
Payment #1: $220 due NO LATER than 9/04/09
Payment #2: $220 due NO LATER than 1/22/10

$15.00 Late Fee

Bring check directly to class and complete the paper registration form.
Make checks payable to Clairmont Presbyterian Church (indicate in memo “Center of Motion”).
Give check to Millie or Hope.

    Saturday, December 12 - Center of Motion Winter Show/Dessert Reception 5:00pm at Clairmont Presbyterian Church Milligan Hall (the building to the right of the Family Life Center)
    All dancers must be at Milligan Hall no later than 4pm to practice and warm up!

    All dancers must be at the theater no later than 2pm to practice and warm up!

    After the recital there is one more week of class.

About the director:

Millie Rhodes, an Atlanta native, grew up studying dance with Lee Harper & Dancers. Millie earned a B.A. Degree in Dance Education from Goucher College and a Masters Degree in Dance from American University. While in D.C., Millie had the opportunity to work at the National Endowment for the Arts. While at the NEA, Millie worked closely with grant applications for dance education programs. In addition to working hard academically for her degrees in dance, Millie spent a lot of time performing in student and faculty dance concerts at both Goucher College and American University. Upon completion of her Masters thesis, Millie moved to Athens, Georgia, where she was an adjunct professor of dance at the University of Georgia. Since she has been back in Atlanta, Millie has taught at The Children's School, Woodward Academy, The Turning Point of Dance, Commerce School of Dance, The Atlanta School of Performing Arts, and Westminster School. Millie has been performing with Lee Harper & Dancers and has been teaching at Lee Harper Studios since 2002. Millie has been teaching for and directing the Center of Motion at Clairmont Presbyterian Church since 2003. Millie is certified by the American Council on Exercise as a personal trainer. Millie feels honored to teach dance to your wonderful girls and loves to be around their energy and enthusiasm.



Hope Harrell is a native of Morganton, North Carolina, and has been dancing since she first saw The Nutcracker at the age of three. She trained with Eleanor Peters, Columbia Ballet School , Ballet Magnificat!, Columbia College and UNC Greensboro where she received degrees in dance and English in 2003. She has performed with the Burke Community Ballet Company, X Factor and Prodigal Dance Project and spent 3 years touring with The Masterpiece: A Toymaker's Dream. While on tour Hope performed in Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Canada, Guinea, Nigeria and China as well as all over the contiguous United States. Most recently she taught dance in the Pacific Northwest for three years. Since her move to Atlanta she has taught at The Studio Atlanta Dance, Lee Harper Studios, Studio Dionne and The Academy of the Arts at Perimeter Church. Hope continues to lead liturgical workshops and performances by both dancers and non-dancers at her home church in North Carolina.
