Costa Rica Mission Trip Report from 2010

The mission team of eight, returned Saturday night, 9/25 and we parted ways with three of our members, from other churches, over tears of love and joy for a wonderful 10 days of serving God’s people on our Costa Rica mission trip.
Many thanks go out to the generous contributions to our mission from various members of the congregation – school supplies, back packs, cash, luggage, etc. A special thanks to Gayle Turner and the Senior ladies for a "packing party" of supplies prior to our departure. We were overjoyed with the support and prayers given the team as you sent us to share God’s love with our Costa Rican partners in Christ. We are very pleased that our missions of construction, foundation, and columns for a fellowship/dining building; and relationships with the people. Our spiritual relationships were very successful. Our facility/construction mission was accomplished to the extent of materials and supplies; we served more children and adults with school supplies, games, toys and love than in the past. Spiritually, we worshiped at community services and the host mission church several times, and participated by singing many songs in Spanish at the Nueva Esperanza worship service. It was a sad, yet joyous departure as we shared our blessed partnership with pastors Freddie and Rebecca and the adults and children of the church and community. It was most moving when pastor Rebecca declared that when the building is finished they will be flying the American flag along with their own country flag. The kids were hanging on to us, not wanting us to leave, so it was a tearful, difficult departure.
As is traditional in Costa Rica, we took some time to share the beauty and abundance of God’s creation by doing some Eco-touring on the way to and from our long trip to Nueva Esperanza/Cano Negro. We truly have furthered our relationship with our Presbyterian brothers and sisters in Costa Rica, and look forward to our next mission trip there in the near future.
