PC(USA) RESPONSE - The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) continues to respond to the earthquake through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and its partners. Presbyterian World Mission is gathering information on the safety and status of our mission personnel and ecumenical partners in the area. You, too, can be part of God’s answer to prayer for those affected by this disaster. PDA is rushing an initial $100,000 from One Great Hour of Sharing and designated funds to help provide immediate emergency relief to the affected people. Funds are being sent through our ecumenical and local partners working in Haiti.
GREATER ATLANTA ASSISTANCE - The Presbytery of Greater Atlanta has a strong partnership in LaGonave. Reports indicate that some damage in LaGonave occurred. The Presbytery has received word that a team from First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta was in LaGonave during the time of the earthquake. They are safe and plans are being considered about how best to get them returned safely to Atlanta.

Mission Trips: Haiti - July - Report from Pastor Tom
On the last week of July you sent a mission team to represent Clairmont and bring the love of Jesus Christ to the people of Haiti. The team was made up of Frank and Hope Arnold, Robert Morris, Daniel Nichols, Wendy Williamson, Smith Laurent, Joshua Pipkin and his dad. Our experience in Haiti was a mixture of painful exposure to the ravages of political oppression and natural disaster along with the hope that can be found in the love of Jesus even in such a dreadful place.
We partnered with the Haiti Outreach Ministry (HOM) through our denomination’s Outreach Foundation. This ministry has existed in Haiti for seventeen years offering hope to the poor with acts of love and care along with the open proclamation of the gospel. Since the January earthquake
the ministry has shifted gears to provide disaster relief. Ours was only one of many teams that have gone to Haiti over the past seven months with the desire to make a small difference for Christ. HOM’s goal is to build one hundred new houses to replace the homes that were destroyed and they are well on their way to reaching that goal. Among other things, our team had the privilege of building roofs for four houses while we were there. As we completed our work each of the families was so grateful to God for the work that was done on their behalf.
Our team has many stories that we would like to share with you about the trip. Look below for some reflections about our trip from Robert Morris, and please stay tuned to the Clairmonitor for the date when we will make a presentation to the congregation. Thank you for the opportunity to represent Clairmont as we served Christ among our Haitian brothers and sisters.
"When we initially arrived in Haiti and drove to our home for the week, we saw many of the images we’ve all seen in the news: tent cities, open sewers, and collapsed buildings. These images were a stark contrast to what we saw once we got settled in. We heard singing coming from the nearby church, and we were treated to an unexpected sunset church service that was brimming with enthusiasm. During our stay, we saw how the church was involved in teaching the children, setting up clinics for the sick, and building shelter for the homeless. I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside members of the church and to be clearly reminded that our hope is in Christ. Our prayers continue go out to the people of Cite Soleil and Blanchard." - Robert Morris
Have you always wanted to see first-hand what God is doing in another part of the world? How does the Amazon River in Brazil sound? Or maybe frontier mission work in Costa Rica? Or perhaps improving the lives of children in Belize? Clairmont people are going to these places and more. Check out what is happening and then jump on board. You can leave your Blackberry behind!
