Tai Chi

Tai Chi

Thursday night is now Tai Chi Night in the Family Life Center. Tai chi is a young art by Chinese standards, only around 350 years old. The Chinese call practicing tai chi playing, and its now practiced by young and old alike around the world. A few of the many medically documented benefits of tai chi include reduced stress levels leading to an enhanced sense of well-being, improved immune system functioning, better flexibility, improved breathing ability and lung capacity, blood pressure control, improved bone density, not to mention better balance to help avoid falls and injuries. Tai chi can be altered to suit your level of health. If you’re looking for light exercise tai chi is perfect, and if you’re in good shape we can have you sweating in less than 10 minutes; the choice is yours. Please show 15 minutes early because we need to do the paperwork before we can "play."

Expect stretching, warm-up exercises, tai chi drills, "ba shi" - the beginning 8 form set, and a bit of Chinese. Classes are Thursday nights from 7:00 to 8:30pm in the FLC - All Purpose Room. The fee is $50 per month or $15 by the class (checks made out to the Church are preferred). All classes are multi-level with room for beginners and more advanced students.

The class will be taught by John Crewdson, a Certified Tai chi Instructor. You may contact him at johncrewdson@gmail.com or (678)542-4944.
