More than 10 million children under the age of five die from disease and malnutrition as a result of hunger. The good news is hundreds of thousands of American teens are responding. Between February and March teens nationwide will participate in the 30 Hour Famine, forsaking food for 30 hours to get a taste of what the world’s poorest children and families face everyday

Where Does the Money Go? Funds raised by the participants ...help feed and care for children in poverty-afflicted countries around the globe. 30 Hour Famine funds contribute to World Vision’s response in areas where famine, conflict, and other crises make children vulnerable to hunger and preventable disease. Eighty-six percent of all the funds raised go directly to children in need.

We, at CYM, do the 30 Hour Famine different than the majority of other youth groups. We do this event “lock-in style.” That is to say, not only are we fasting from food, but also sleep! We do this all night.... well, because we are crazy...

Each individual participant will start the famine at 3:00 am Saturday morning and meet together as a group at 9:30 am for the remaining 25 hours to be spent together. We will tap into our energy tanks right away by climbing Stone Mountain, and having our first spiritual meal on the mountain.

Upon returning from the mountain we will hold a Pledge-A-Thon where we call friends, family, and members of CPC. We want to make sure we give everyone the opportunity to give for a good cause. We will simply call folks and let them know how far we are into the famine and ask them if they’d like to sponsor us. The Pledge-A-Thon has been a huge hit in years past. Above and beyond what each individual had already raised, we received an extra $ 2,112.50 in pledges last year! These two hours spent on the phone will feed a child for the next six years!!

The afternoon will be spent doing a couple service projects for our community.

Then nightfall comes… 8:00 pm. We will have a good spiritual dinner together before mayhem breaks loose.

The remainder of the night will be wild...! Some of the bigger games and contest will be: Our version of the game show "Minute to Win it", Underground Church, basketball games, roller skating, and the quieter room with movies and video games. We will break the fast as a group on Sunday, after the Sunday school hour, where our loving parents will cook and serve us Rice and Bananas (nothing hits the spot better... seriously)

The youth of Clairmont are awesome! These youth really understand Gods love and call for us to not just say but to also do. In years past they have had a great attitude throughout the entire event and accomplished so many things through doing the famine, and doing so with a good heart! In their busy lives, our youth will choose to deny themselves and their earthly temples and live for Him!

Thanks to all the youth who will participate, all of you who will give financially, and all the many leaders and parents who will help in so many ways!
