Small Groups

We are committed to being an authentic community serving others. Gathering in small groups during the week is a vital part of community-forming.   Contact Bobby if you are interested in joining one or have questions: bobby@clairmontpres.org. More details are also available at the Last Call worship gathering.

Considering a small group? See the following…

Why should I join a small group?

Because you think digestion matters…

Ever notice how quickly we eat our food in this culture? “Fast food,” “grab a bite to eat,” and “eating on the run” are all common phrases that point to how rarely we truly slow down and enjoy food. We lack the time to prepare it, we lack the time to savor and appreciate it, and we lack the time to enjoy it in community. Eating easily becomes a simple necessity that we do quickly so we can get on with all of life.

That same sentiment has seeped into our spiritual lives. If we need some spiritual substance in our lives, we look for a good Bible verse, perhaps a counseling session, or a church service. We want immediate guidance so that we can get on with our lives. Yet, the Bible tells us that God’s Word is our daily bread – our spiritual nourishment. As such, we are called to chew on, appreciate, and even question God’s Word, allowing it to fully digest into our heart, mind, body, and soul. And as with most meals, being nourished by God’s Word happens best in community.

In the small groups, you can be assured that you will be nourished both by a meal and God’s Word. To join a small group, then, is to say quite simply, “I want to slow down and eat with others.”

Because you think our community matters…

Each small group will meet three times a month in a home or coffee shop for food, discussion, and prayer. One time a month, the group will meet to serve the community. We want to take seriously that these groups are not sheltered, insiders clubs that make no difference in the world around us. These monthly service endeavors allow us to move beyond ourselves and bless the community. Each group is responsible for choosing where and how they’ll serve.

In small groups, you can be assured that you will impact the community around us. To join a small group, then, is to say also, “I want to find a way to make a difference in our community.”

Because you have no idea what is going to happen next in your life…

If you’re like most young adults in the Decatur/Atlanta area, you have no idea where you’ll be a year or two from now. We recognize, then, that making commitments to most anything is fairly tenuous. For that reason, Winter/Spring small groups with Last Call will begin in January and go until May – four months total.

There is no expectation of participation beyond that timeframe. Nevertheless, we hope that by jumping in with a small group you might meet a group of friends who turn out to be part of the answer to where you might be headed next. And – if nothing else – you’ll have met a group of folks who will support and encourage you along the way.
